Literature Committee Minutes

Purpose

The purpose of the Literature Committee is to create clear and concise pieces of literature that are helpful to both compulsive eaters and food addicts who still suffer and those who are maintaining their GreySheet abstinence. Our aim is to present every aspect of the GreySheeters Anonymous program of recovery in written form. Literature includes books, pamphlets, leaflets, and other material that is reviewed and approved for distribution to our members, friends, professionals, and to the world at large. The work of the Literature Committee happens between World Service Conferences.

What do we do?

• Develop new GSA literature.
• Contribute to the development of literature by other GSA committees.
• Solicit feedback from the GSA community regarding how existing GSA literature is being used.
• Determine when and how to revise existing GSA literature.
• Recommend to the Board of Trustees how each document might best be distributed to accomplish its purpose.
• Suggest to the Board and Finance Committee which literature should be sold (as opposed to being available as free web downloads), how, and for how much.
• Support the translation of GSA literature into other languages

How Can You Contribute?

If you enjoy writing, are organized, can meet deadlines and love GSA as much as we do, we would love to have you join the Literature Committee. We are also looking for people to help translate our existing literature. Email literature@greysheet.org to get involved.

Daily Reflections Subcommittee

The Literature Committee is creating a book of daily reflections, titled One Meal at a Time. It will be a resource GreySheeters will use for many decades to come. The book will be divided into two parts:

1. Part one will offer three short reflections for every day of the year. They will be 60 to 80-word reflections designed to be food for thought accompanying each meal that nourishes our bodies.
2. Part two consists of longer (250-300 words) reflections on the 12 Steps and 12 Traditions for each month of the year.

The work of this subcommittee includes collecting contributions from the GreySheet community, organizing them, and editing them for consistency. Contact Reflections@greysheet.org to join this subcommittee.

GSA History Book Subcommittee

This subcommittee works with the GSA Archives Committee to tell the complete story of how and why the GreySheet was developed. What controversies surrounded its use in recovery from compulsive eating? Why did a separate fellowship emerge? Why is the food plan at the heart of the GSA fellowship? How did the GSA fellowship expand to a global community? What challenges does the fellowship face today? We will explore these questions and more by interviewing GSA longtimers and inviting all GreySheeters Anonymous Group and Intergroup Service Representatives (GSRs/ISRs) to fill out our questionnaire.

GSA Twelve & Twelve Subcommittee

This work of this subcommittee breaks into two parts, both of which involve not only writing and editing but collating and consolidating community feedback and contributions.

1. Revising the first edition of Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of GreySheeters Anonymous based on feedback from GSA members.
2. Adding a new section covering the Twelve Concepts for World Service of GreySheeters Anonymous, following the same general format used for the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions.

Writing and Translation Policies

We want to eliminate any barriers to accessing the experience, strength, and hope available in our literature by making faithful translations available. The intent of our policy for translations of GreySheeters Anonymous literature is to

1. Maintain the spirit and meaning of the original English version;
2. Ensure that all involved understand that translated literature remains the intellectual property of GreySheeters Anonymous World Services, Inc.
